Both encrypt transfers. TransferNow protects with a password from the free plan and adds SSE-C encryption (your password as the server-side encryption key), plus antivirus scanning of every file.

On sovereignty: TransferNow is a European, GDPR-compliant solution that lets you choose the storage region (France, Europe…). Filemail is a Norwegian company (EEA), aligned with the GDPR, but relies on international servers without an equivalent region choice.

Both offer an API. TransferNow provides a pay-as-you-go REST API — you only pay for the transfers actually made — that is storage-independent.
